KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Nine militants have been killed and three others wounded during an ongoing offensive in the Chahar Dara district of northern Kunduz province, an official said on Wednesday.
Local police spokesman, Syed Sarwar Hussaini, told Pajhwok Afghan News the dead included a commander, Mullah Sultan. The rebels were killed during an ambush by security forces in Nawabad village on Tuesday night, he said.
The Afghan forces and civilians stayed unharmed during the clashes, he said, claiming several villages had been cleared of militants during the operation launched three weeks ago.
But a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed five Afghan forces were killed and four others wounded during a clash in Nawabad area on Tuesday afternoon.
In the militants’ website, Mujahid confirmed the death of only one fighter and injuries to another four during the Nawabad clash.
