KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of liquefied gas and gold dipped and that of other essential daily-use commodities stayed stable during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.
A gas seller in the Thaimani neighbourhood told Pajhwok Afghan News he sold one kilogram of gas for 70 afghanis against the last week’s 100 afghanis.
Mohammad Sharif added they purchased gas from supplying companies and he earned five afghanis in a kilogram.
The gas rate soared unprecedentedly in Kabul last week as the price of one kilogram jumped from 65 afghanis to 120 afghanis in some areas.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industries said last week that 10,000 tonnes of liquefied gas had been imported to help reduce the commodity’s price. The ministry has fixed the price of one kilogram at 55 afghanis.
Meanwhile, the price of the Arabian gold also decreased during the week.
Abdul Basir, a jeweller in Lycée Maryam area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold sunk from 2,100afs to 2,000afs and the same quantity of the Iranian variety decreased from 1,700afs to 1,600afs.
Basir linked the cut in gold prices to international market trends.
However, the rates of fuel remained unchanged.
Abdul Saboor a filling station owner in Wazirabad area, sold a litre of petrol for 60afs and a litre of diesel for 64afs, the same prices as last week’s.
Fazal Rahman, the Food Traders’ Union head, said a 50-kg bag of Pakistani flour cost 1,280afs, a 24-kg sack of rice 1,800afs, a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee 380afs, a kilogram of African black tea 210afs and a kilogram of Vietnam green tea 180afs, registering no change in their rates.
But a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area, Khan Ali, sold a sack of 50-kg sack of Pakistani flour for 1,450afs, a 24-kg sack of rice for 2,200afs, a 5-kg Momin oil tin at 460afs, a kilogram of green tea for 240afs and a kilogram of African black tea for 280afs.
Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.30afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 567afs. Last week’s exchange value of the greenback stood at 56.90afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 565afs.
