KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): One policeman has been killed and seven civilians wounded when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a police check post in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, the governor’s spokesman said.
Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the suicide attack took place on Thursday night at around 8: 00 pm in Toray Oba area of the district.
Khpalwak said a woman and a child were among the wounded who were instantly evacuated to a hospital by police. Some of the injured were struggling for life, he added.
As usual, Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with the group spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the suicide attacker, Samiullah, struck his explosive-laden car into the check post, leaving 18 policemen dead.
Separately, a roadside mine blast left two civilians wounded on Kabul highway in the vicinity of Kandahar City.
Nine militants had been killed in a two-hour long gun battle in Shah Wali Kot district, but police and civilians suffered no casualties during the fire fight, police added.
