KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The police chief for the Arghistan district of southern Kandahar province has been killed along with his two bodyguards in a suicide attack, which also left six policemen wounded, an official said on Monday.
The governor’s spokesman, Samim Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News a suicide bomber forced his way inside the police headquarters and blew himself up, killing Abdul Manaf and two of his bodyguards and wounding six other policemen.
He said the wounded policemen were evacuated to a local hospital, where two of them are said to be in critical condition. The assailant struck at 10.00pm.
Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durrani said a team had been sent to the district to investigate the incident. It remained unclear how the attacker entered the heavily-guarded police facility, he added.
As usual the Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, with the group’s spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi saying 10 security personnel had been killed and eight others wounded in the attack carried out by Mustafa.
