KABUL on Sunday said some technical issues concerning the June presidential runoff were being addressed to complete the electoral process.
Jan Kubis, the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan and the UN Assistance Mission (UNAMA) head, called on President Hamid Karzai at the Presidential Palace.
A statement from the palace said US Ambassador James B. Cunningham was also present on the occasion and both updated Karzai on the progress made so far in the deadlocked electoral process.
The meeting follows the completion of a 50-day audit of the votes cast during the June 14 runoff . However, final results could not be announced due to differences between the two rivals over the chief executive position.
The two candidates are scheduled to meet again tomorrow (Monday) to sort out differences.
