QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a tribal elder in the Maqur district of western Badghis province, an official said on Monday.
Abdul Hadi, the district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Abdul Baqi was gunned down in Komri village at around 12: 00 pm.
Baqi was a leading tribal elder who always played a decisive role in resolving issues between militants and government.
Abdul Qayyum, a resident of the locality, said Baqi was a popular figure throughout the area. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.
