KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Commerce and Industries has bought 4,000 tonnes of gas from the union in an attempt to keep its prices stable in the market.

Azrakhsh Hafizi, a spokesman for the union, said liquefied gas was sold to the ministry for 45 afs per kilogram. In the first phase, 500 tonnes of gas was delivered while the rest will be provided in phases.

A few days back, gas prices jumped to unprecedented 120 afs in the capital Kabul. Later, the department of crude oil announced the price of one kilogram gas at 50 afs.

Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, deputy director of gas and crude oil enterprises, said the Ministry of Commerce and Industries intended to import another 100,000 tonnes of gas from neighboring Turkmenistan soon.

Musafar Qoqandi, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, said retail price of one kilogram gas stood at 60 afs in the open market and those who found overcharging customers would face the law.
