PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Suspected insurgents seized and drove away a municipality water tanker along with its driver in central Logar province early on Wednesday morning, the mayor said.
The tanker was intercepted by two gunmen on a motorcycle in an area south of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, Ahmadullah Khan Ulfat told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The incident took place 300 metres from the provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS) office and the city’s security gate, he said.
Ulfat said the municipality served the masses irrespective of their affiliations with particular groups and the department had been impartial in the conflict, urging the rebels to release the tanker and its driver.
Logar police chbief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hakim Ishaqzoy also confirmed the incident, saying that police had launched an investigation.
About two years ago, the insurgents had stolen a water tanker from the municipality, but the vehicle could not be recovered so far.
