KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Saturday signed court orders for the execution of five convicted rapists and robbers.
Presidential spokesman Aimal Faizi wrote on his Twitter page that Karzai, who is due to retire within days, inked the orders today.
Earlier this month, the Kabul Court of Appeals upheld a primary court verdict against the rapists.
Clad in police uniforms, the gangsters deprived passengers of their valuables and sexually abused four women after intercepting their vehicle on the main road in Paghman.
The incident drew strong condemnation from the Afghans, with some calling for the accused to be hanged in public.
