Petrol up, gold down in Kabul

KABUL): The prices of fuel jumped while the rates of gold dipped during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Abdul Saboor, owner of a pump station in Wazirabad, said a litre of petrol accounted for 64 afghanis, compared with 63afs last week.

But the diesel price stayed stable, he told Pajhwok Afghan News, linking the petrol price increase to low imports. By the same token, gas rates also remained unchanged.  

Mohammad Sharif, a retailer in Taimani area, said one kg of gas cost 70afs — same as last week. The government-announced price is 48afs.

Fazel Rahman, head of Food Traders’ Association, said the wholesale rate of a kg of Vietnamese green tea was 180afs and the same quantity of African black tea 210afs.

A 40-kg bag of Pakistani sugar accounted for 1,700afs and a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 360afs — same rates as last week’s.

But a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area, Khan Ali, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,350afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 2,000afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 2,300afs, a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 440afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a city jeweller, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold fell from 2,050afs to 2,000afs and the Russian variety from 1,550afs to 1,500afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.30afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 563afs. Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 57.30afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 561afs.
