GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The governor on Tuesday said security forces had thwarted a plot by militants to attack four districts in southern Ghazni province.
Musa Khan Akbarzada told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants had been trying to create insecurity during Eid days and launch attacks on Gilan, Maqur, Khogyani and Giru districts but they could not do so owing to tight security measures.
Ghazni citizens were worried about insecurity because militants had also been trying to target Afghan forces with muted guns but now there was no concern about it, he said.
Akbarzada added militants had been defeated in the battle in Ajiristan district, where rebels from seven other districts joined forces to take control of the area.
The Taliban have no moral support among the people because they killed civilians and disrespected Islamic values, the governor said.
He said militants faced strong resistance from Afghan forces in Khogyani, Giru and Ajiristan districts and they suffered heavy casualties during the fights.
