Kabul (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Tuesday welcomed a presidential decree that called for reforms in the police and making the force an independent and professional organ.
MoI spokesman Siddiqui Siddique in a joint press conference with the Kabul police chief hailed President Ashraf Ghani’s decision in this regard.
President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has issued a decree ordering the authorities concerned to make the police a none political organ and appoint police stations heads on the basis of their professionalism and skills.
Siddique said the Minister of Interior had been authorised to ensure the presidential decree was implemented within a month.
He said the decree’ implementation would introduce more reforms to improve the performance of police and security situation across the county.
He appreciated President Ashraf Ghani and Executive chief Abdullah Abdullah’s support for the police and said the new leadership’s backing would strengthen police morale.
