SAR-I-PUL/QALAT (Pajhwok): Three insurgents and a policeman have been killed during separate incidents of violence in northern Sar-i-Pul and southern Zabul provinces, officials said on Wednesday.
Zabul deputy police chief Col. Ghulam Jilani Farahi that police conducted an operation against militants in the Nawbahar district on Wednesday.
Two rebels and one policeman were killed during a clash in the Babu area, he said, claiming police had confiscated weapons and ammunitions from the insurgents.
A Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the fighters launched attacks on Tuesday afternoon on police posts in the Shinkai district of Zabul, inflicting casualties on the police, a claim Farahi dismissed.
In Sar-i-Pul, insurgents ambushed police in the Sozma Qala district on Tuesday, sparking a fierce gun-battle that left one attacker dead and two others wounded, police official Col. Inayatullah Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said police had arrested two illegal armed men last night in Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital.
