KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Benefiting thousands of families, a newly-constructed bridge was inaugurated on Sunday in southeastern Khost province by the provincial acting governor.

Abdul Jabbar Naeemi told Pajhwok Afghan News at the inaugural ceremony that the bridge cost 67 million afghanis provided by the World Bank. The 120-meter long and eight-meter wide structure took a year to complete.

Thousands of families in the Farm Bagha area face problems when floods cut them off from the main bazaar.

Naeemi said the bridge connected Farm Bagh residents with people in other areas and the bazaar across the bridge.

Public Works Director Eng Mamoor Shah said people’s sufferings had mitigated to some extent after construction of bridges in Khost. Local people helped engineers complete bridges in which quality work had been maintained.

A resident of Farm Bagh area, Mohammad Karim, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had long been without bridge, suffering financial and human losses in flooding. He said now they got a sigh of relief.

Besides the new one, three bridges have been inaugurated during the past 20 months and another two bridges are under construction in Khost.
