KABUL cultural show, involving a variety of programmes, is currently underway in Peshawar, the capital of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, organisers said on Sunday.
The Pak-Afghan People’s Forum said in a statement the two-day event, which began at Nishtar Hall to celebrate the Afghanistan Cultural Day, would conclude today.
A number of culturists from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and delegates from Quetta Karachi, Islamabad, Afghanistan, Germany and Canada are in attendance.
Awami National Party (ANP) General Secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain told the audience that militancy had damaged the Pakhtun culture. He said the rich Pakhtun culture was 5,000 years old.
The militants had destroyed hundreds of schools and health.”
Prof Fidaullah Sehrai shed light on the rich culture of the region that has been home to Gandhara civilisation. The region had been a cultural and civilisational melting pot over the centuries, he added.
“The rich cultural heritage in the region is a manifestation of its strategic importance and history,” he remarked, stressing the preservation and promotion of regional culture to save our national identity.
Twenty-five stalls of traditional food, dresses, jewellery, books and antiques have been set up as part of the cultural show.
