ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police seized 70 kilograms of drugs from a car near the Iranian border in southwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Sunday.
The drugs included 48 kg of heroin and 20 kg of opium, police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Jangal Bagh told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the smugglers had managed to flee after their bid to transfer the narcotics across the border into Iran was foiled.
Governor Amir Mohammad Akhunzada had said Nimroz served as a key drug smuggling route to foreign countries due to its plan terrain and a long border with Iran.
Nimroz province shares a 230-kilometer border with neighbouring Iran. Drugs are usually smuggled via the border due a small number of border police posts.
