KABUL on Monday defeated the UAE by a huge margin of 306 runs in their Under-19 Asian Premier Cup match in Kuwait. It was Afghanistan’s second victory in a row.
The Afghans, who on Sunday humiliated Malaysians by 10 wickets, won the toss and chose to bat against the UAE, setting the rivals 390 runs target in the 50-over game, said Farid Hotak, the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s spokesman.
For Afghanistan, Tariq Stanikzai hit his career best 140 runs followed by Wahidullah Shafaq with 87 runs. The Afghans scored a total of 389 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
They wasted little time in skittling out the UAE for 83 runs in the 32nd over, with Nawinul Haq clinching four wickets, Rashid Arman and Shahidullah sharing two wickets apiece. Tariq Stanikzai was declared the man of the match.
ACB chief executive officer Dr. Noor Mohammad Murad congratulated the nation over the victory and praised the team members for their heroic show.
