KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul police chief Gen. Mohammad Zahir Zahir said on Saturday that mafia groups were trying to kill him as initial investigation into last week’s suicide attack inside the police headquarters showed he was the target.
Gen. Zahir told reporters in Kabul he had recently arrested many kidnappers and members of mafia groups, claiming that the recent attack that left his office’s manager dead was aimed at killing him.
To a question how the attacker was able to enter the police HQ, he said around 25 to 30 people daily visited his office and the investigation showed it had been a complicated attack.
He did not rule out the possibility of an insider’s involvement to help the suicide attacker enter the police building, saying investigations were underway.
Last week, he said, 42 criminal cases happened in Kabul City and 37 people were arrested for various crimes during the period.
