HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Thousands of people, attending funeral prayers for a slain prominent religious figure in western Herat province, on Saturday asked the government to arrest the assassins.
Haji Azizullah Najafi, a former member of the Herat provincial council and a prominent Shiite cleric, was shot dead on Thursday by two motorcyclists in the Darwaz-e-Kandahar area of Herat City.
More than five thousand people took part in the burial ceremony of the slain Afghanistan Council member.
The funeral participants were chanting like “we want security” and “death to terrorism”. They said Haji Najafi was not only belonged to the Shiites but to the entire country.
Acting Herat governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi assured that the killers would be arrested over the next three days.
“The killing of this religious scholar is a huge loss to the people of Herat and Afghanistan”, he remarked.
