Turkmenistan improves power supply to Afghan north

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Turkmenistan has improved electricity supply to three northern provinces of Afghanistan after complaints about low voltage and outages.

Electricity to Faryab, Jawzjan and Sar-i-Pul provinces is imported from Turkmenistan, but consumers have been complaining that the supply is often interrupted despite being weak.

A new 220 KW sub-station has recently been inaugurated in Karaki area of Turkmenistan, improving power supply to northern Afghanistan.

Ghulam Sakha, Jawzjan water and energy director, told Pajhwok News Turkmen electricity officials, who visited Shiberghan, had assured them of normal electricity flow into Afghanistan.

Sakha added more than 30,000 families in Shiberghan and surrounding districts used the electricity from Turkmenistan.

Residents also welcomed the development and said they could not afford generators.

Officials in Faryab and Sar-i-Pul provinces also said 72,000 and amilies used the electricity from Turkmenistan in the two provinces and hoped the supply would continue uninterrupted.
