GHAZNI/GARDEZ/MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Ten militants have been killed and several others detained during separate incidents in various parts of the country, officials said on Wednesday.
Four insurgents were killed during a clash with security forces in the Giru district of southern Ghazni province, 203 rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman for the province, Nazifullah Sultani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the four militants were killed on Tuesday night in the Sheli area during an operation focused on Giru and Waghiz districts.
Another three militants involved in insurgent attacks were killed by security forces in Zewach area of Ghazni City, the provincial capital, Sultani said.
He said an armed group leader accused of looting passengers on the Kabul-Kandahar highway had been arrested.
In central Maidan Wardak province, three militants were killed and two others wounded during an hour-long clash with security forces in the Syedabad district on Wednesday morning, the governor’s spokesman said.
He said police confiscated a vehicle and some weapons and ammunitions from the clash site.
Elsewhere, three suspected militants have been detained during separate operations in southeastern Paktia province.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel told Pajhwok Afghan News a man was detained possessing magnetic bombs in Teri area of Gardez, the provincial capital, last night.
He said the detainee intended to fix the bombs to vehicles of security forces in the city. The police official said two men were detained along with a Kalashnikov in the Banozo area of Gardez. The pair had been involved in various criminal activities, he said.
The pair was detained from house, but their three others friends had managed to escape, Oryakhel said.
