MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Five Taliban insurgents were killed and seven others injured during a cleanup operation in the Ghormach district of northern Faryab province, officials said on Thursday.
Three ANA soldiers were also injured during the joint operation with police and intelligence operatives, 209th Shaheen Military Corps spokesman in the north, Major Mohammad Reza Rezaee, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The operation that lasted five hours was launched yesterday to clear the district from insurgents, he said.
Ammunitions and three motorcycles were seized in the operation that came in response to intelligence reports that insurgents were trying to close the Ghormach-Qaisar highway.
With no Taliban spokesman immediately available for comment, the army official said the insurgents had fled the area after the operation.
During the operation, a mortar attack injured four civilians in Ghormach, but it remained unknown as to which side had fired it.
However, the affected family’s member, Abdullah, said he was with his son in hospital when he was informed that his four family members had been injured in a mortar attack.
