JALALABAD/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Police on Saturday detained six people on charges of trafficking more than one ton of narcotics in eastern Nangarhar and southwestern Nimroz provinces, officials said.
Nangarhar police chief Col. Fazal Ahmad Shirzad told a news conference around 230 kilograms of drugs had been confiscated during two separate operations in the province.
He said that 630 kilograms of narcotics packed in boxes were seized in Daronta check point, the entrance gate of Jalalabad city, the provincial capital. Four alleged smugglers had also been detained in connection of trafficking drugs.
He said the smugglers who were planning to shift the contraband to Kabul were being quizzed.
According to another report, around 525 kilograms of narcotics had been seized in Kang district of Nimroz province.
Provincial police Chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Qasim said that the drug had been seized in Arzo village of the district, close to Iran border.
