JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A joint Afghan-NATO force destroyed nine heroin-producing factories during an overnight operation in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
Nangarhar police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News a huge quantity of drugs were destroyed during the raid involving personnel from the Afghan counternarcotics special force, Afghan National Army’s commando unit and ISAF.
The drugs destroyed included 100 jerry canes of morphine, 1000 kg of ammonium chlorite and 800 gallons of acid all used in processing heroin.
Mashriqiwal also said a NATO drone strike a day earlier killed two Pakistani militants associated with Maulana Fazlullah’s Tehreek-i-Taliban’s faction in the Nazyan district.
However, the Afghan Taliban claimed the strike caused casualties to civilians. The ISAF media office in Kabul is yet to comment.
