KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A huge search operation has been launched to secure the release of 15 abducted Sher Khan Port employees from their captors in northern Kunduz province, security officials said on Thursday.
The dry port workers were kidnapped by suspected Taliban gunmen on Wednesday when they were travelling a Coaster vehicle and took them away to an undisclosed location.
Earlier, local officials said 12 workers had been kidnapped but later Sher Khan Port deputy director Imamuddin Sarshakhi confirmed they were 15.
Kunduz police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini said the employees had been kidnapped by Dr. Hussain, the Taliban’s shadow district chief for Dasht-i-Archi district.
However, the Taliban have so far not commented on the abduction.
Sher Khan Bandar a border town and a major trading hub located in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz near the border with neighbouring Tajikistan.
