FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Security forces in the Argo district of northeastern Badakhshan province destroyed a heroin-producing laboratory during an overnight operation, an official said on Saturday.
Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai, the police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that counter-narcotics police seized 1,000 litres of dissolved opium and tens of kilograms of other chemicals used in heroin manufacture.
However, no one had been arrested, Ahmadzai added. Badakhshan is a mountainous province a key drug smuggling route to Tajikistan and Pakistan.
According to counter-narcotics department, out of 4,500 hectares of the poppy crop, 1,410 hectares were destroyed in Badakhshan this year.
