KABUL (Pajhwok): In the wake of a sharp rise in terrorist attacks in the central capital, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Zahir Zahir resigned as Kabul police chief on Sunday.
Kabul police spokesman Hashmatullah Stanikzai told Pajhwok Afghan News that Gen. Zahir had planned to stand down last week and finally submitted his resignation today.
Stanikzai did not assign any reason for his resignation, but said Gen. Zahir did not wish to continue with the job. The Ministry of Interior accepted Zahir’s resignation.
Meanwhile, a senior MoI official said Gen. Abdul Rahman Rahimi had been appointed as new police chief for Kabul. Rahimi previously served as Balkh police head.
