MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The governor of southwestern Faryab province on Sunday denounced attaching spying tools and explosives to the wings of a bird as a plot of the Pakistan spy service.

A day earlier, the public order police hunted an eagle-sized bird during a patrol on the Maimana-Andkhoi highway. A remote-controlled mine and other wireless tools were attached to the fowl.

Governor Mohammadullah Batash claimed regional intelligence agencies, particularly Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence, had employed the tactics of using birds for spying.

“We have ordered investigative and security organs to probe the incident, which could be Taliban’s new plot hatched in compliance with orders from their foreign supporters,” he told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Col. Sayed Aqa Andarabi, the public order police commander, said after noticing an antenna and a wired piece attached to the bird’s wings, soldiers hunted it down.

He added rings with Arabic and English scripts were attached to the bird’s feet.

Zikrullah, a resident of Dawlatabad district, said during the Taliban regime, Pakistan and Arab citizens used to come to Lailia desert for hunting rare birds.
