JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Muhammad Hanif Gardiwal, the deputy governor of eastern Nangarhar province, on Tuesday asked women and intensify efforts to combat violence.
Speaking at a gathering on International Day of Violence Against Women, Gardiwal said women should get themselves educated and then accelerate their fight against violence.
“Violence against women could be eliminated when there is enough awareness in society. This kind of gatherings should be held in villages and remote areas,” he suggested.
He asked all departments to support efforts to eliminate violence against women, who should be deputed in offices.
Maj. Gen. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, the provincial police chief, said women should actively safeguard their rights and allow no one to trample on their constitutionally-guaranteed rights.
He said tens of women had been working as police officers in the province and more should come forward to protect their motherland and raise their status in society.
