Kabul, London discuss regional situation

LONDON (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani held a breakfast meeting with British Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street in London on Friday.

Also joined by Pakistan.

Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah was also present at the meeting, which came hours after the London Conference on Afghanistan’s future direction.

Ghani and Cameron hosted envoys from over 60 countries for talks on fostering civil society, combating corruption and encouraging political reforms in Afghanistan.

“History will not be repeated. We have overcome the past,” Ghani told diplomats at the end of the conference. “We ask all our partners and neighbours to stand with us because no country is a fortress.”

Sharif said the conference marked a historic new beginning for the two countries. “Pakistan remains in strong solidarity with the people of Afghanistan,” he added.

On the sidelines of the moot, Sharif also held a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry. He said Pakistan’s anti-terrorism cooperation and efforts for regional peace must be recognised.
