BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A girls’ volleyball tournament was held in central Bamyan province as a part of campaign to curb violence against women.
The first match was played between Syedabad and Kart-i-Sulh teams from Bamyan City. The Kart-i-Sulh team won Tuesday’s encounter.
Sakina, a spiker from the winning side, told Pajhwok Afghan News it was not important who had won the match; women’s participation was important.
Spectator Razia, a supporter of Kart-i-Sulh, said: “I am very happy seeing the first-ever tournament featuring girls.”
Syed Eshaq Hashimi, director of sports, acknowledged there were many hurdles to promoting women’s sports in Bamyan. He said there was no proper playground for female players.
