JALALABAD/GHAZNI (PAJHWOK): At least five insurgents were killed and 11 others wounded during a clash in the Pachiragam district of eastern Nangarhar province on Tuesday, an official said.
The insurgents attacked Afghan National Police (ANP) check-posts in Mamakhel area early in the morning, but there were beaten back, said Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal, the spokesman of Nangarhar police.
He said a Pakistani militant was among seven insurgents killed in the firefight that left 11 other rebels and a police official wounded.
Elsewhere, 13 militants were killed during an operation and airstrikes in Waghaz and Andar districts of southern Ghazni province.
Ten rebels were killed during an airstrike in Laghar area of Waghaz district on Monday night, district police chief 2nd Lt. Abdul Qadir Toofan said.
Mohammad Rahim, a resident, said a number of militants suffered casualties during the air raid. He added a civilian was also injured in the incident — a claim rejected by officials.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the loss of only three rebels in the raid. Separately, three insurgents were killed during an operation in the Surki area of Andar district last night.
Nazifullah Sultani, the 203rd Thunder Military Corps spokesman, said weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation.
But Taliban denied losing any fighters and instead claimed that an Afghan Local Police member had been captured in Ghbarglon area.
