KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday underlined the need for the use of information technology (IT) in economic development and said the country lacked a national strategy.
Addressing the 10th national conference on IT through a video conference, Ghani said Afghanistan’s capacity should be evaluated both inside and abroad for strategic advice in this regard.
He said through IT youth could develop their capacity and universities could be connected to major institutions across the world. “Our youth, especially university students, must have access to IT “
He asked the conference participants to study the current problems in the IT sector and develop plans so that the government could invest in the vital area.
Ghani added being independent in IT could guarantee independence in economy, human resource management, expansion of educated class and women’s participation in public life.
The conference is held in Kabul every year with the help of Berlin Technical University since 2005.
