PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Syed Ali Gohar Shah, a candidate for provincial council in northern Baghlan province, escaped unhurt in a blast that targeted his vehicle on Thursday.
Shah told Pajhwok Afghan News he was the target of the attack because he had received death threats from the Taliban.
“I have registered a case against the provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC) because I won the election but the body declared another candidate the winner,” he complained.
Jawed Basharat, police spokesperson, said as soon as a police contingent reached the scene, another explosion occurred but caused no casualties. So far no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mohammad Ali, an eyewitness, said insecurity had deteriorated in the area which created chaos among locals.
