KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Negotiations have launched for the release of four Tajikistan border police personnel whom the Taliban Sahib district of Kunduz province, an official said on Saturday.
The Tajik policemen were initially held in a forest before being shifted to an unknown location, the district chief, Amanuddin Qureshi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He added: “We will launch negotiations with the Taliban through local tribal elders the soldiers’ release. Diplomatic relations with Tajikistan will not be compromised,” the official promised.
Provincial council chief Mohammad Yusuf Ayubi said they were in negotiations with the authorities to find a way of rescuing the Tajik policemen. He acknowledged the Taliban were active in parts of the district.
