MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Two civilians were killed and as many injured on Sunday when a bomb went off in front of a shop in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province, an official said.
The midday blast took place in the district’s bazaar, said the governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, who confirmed the dead included member of the district tribal council, Malak Niaz Mohammad.
The bomb had been planted in front of a shop. The injured have been taken to hospital and one of them is said to be in critical condition.
Giving an eyewitness account, Khayal Mohammad told Pajhwok Afghan News it was a powerful blast that damaged several nearby shops. He said the target was Malak Niaz Mohammad.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion that comes two days after three civilians suffered casualties in a gun attack.
