3 bank officials, cop killed in Lashkargah blast

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Three bank employees and a policeman were killed in a landmine blast in the capital of southern Helmand province on Friday evening, police said.

The provincial police spokesman said the roadside bomb tore through a vehicle carrying employees of Azizi Bank, the second largest commercial bank in Afghanistan, in Laskhargah at about 5pm.

The blast killed three bank officials and one policeman and extensively damaged the vehicle, he said, adding that the injured persons had been taken to hospital but gave no figure and information about the extent of their injuries.

There was no claim of responsibility for the blast that comes three days after a rocket strike killed 21 wedding guests and injured 50 others, mostly children and women, including the bride, in the Sangin district.

The injured from the Sangin incident are being treated in the Emergency-run hospital in Lashkargah, where the bride succumed to her wounds on Thursday night.
