LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The bride who was injured and whom marriage was devastated by a rocket strike in southern Helmand province has succumbed to her injuries in hospital, a local elder said on Friday.
Several mortar rounds hit a house where a wedding celebration was being held in the troubled Sangin district on Wednesday evening, leaving more than two dozen wedding guests dead and nearly 50, mostly children and women, injured.
Local officials and residents said it were their own troops who fired mortars near the house in the Mian Rodi village.
Six Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been detained for investigation in connection with the shelling that drew strongly condemnation from the Afghan government, people and the United Nations.
Haji Nasim, a local elder, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the wounded bride breathed her last in Lashkargah Emergency-run Hospital on Thursday night. He said the bride had suffered severe wounds.
A medic at the hospital also said two children and the bride had died in the hospital. He said most of the wounded were in critical condition.
