Andy Pick joins Afghans before WC debut

ACB spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News the former English cricketer and former Canadian coach would train Afghan bowlers to perform better in the World Cup commencing from Feb 14.

Hotak said Andy Pick would join the side for a maiden training session ahead of their four one-day matches against Scotland and Ireland this week in Dubai.

The national team on Saturday left for the UAE to play two ODIs against Scotland and as many against Ireland as part of their preparations for the mega event.

ACB Chairman Nasimullah Danish hoped the new coach would contribute to training Afghan players and improving their bowling skills.

Pick is the third foreign coach to join the national team already being mentored by two coaches from Britain and Australia.

In the UAE, Afghanistan will first face Scotland on Jan 8 and then Ireland on Jan 10. They will their third match against Scotland on Jan 14 and fourth on Jan 17 against Ireland.

Afghanistan will make its maiden appearance at the World Cup 2015 to be held between February 14 and March 29.
