TALUQAN/LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Police in different operations have seized around one-and-a-half tonnes of narcotics and detained seven alleged smugglers in northern Taluqan and southern Helmand provinces, officials said Sunday.
Border police in Helmand claimed one ton of narcotics had been recovered and arrested three smugglers in two different operations.
Brig. Gen. Hamidullah Saddiqui, border police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that his force had seized a huge quantity of opium and hashish in Khan Nashin district.
The contraband, he said was being smuggled in a car to Pakistan. The numbers of police check posts had been increased, which helped reduced smuggling bids to great extent, he added.
Separately, security officials in Takhar recovered a huge amount of contraband. Maj. Abdul Khalil, police spokesman, said that the illegal stuff was loaded from Badakhshan in two cars, which were recovered by Takhar police.
Three persons had been detained in connection of smuggling, he added.
