QALAT (Pajhwok): The deputy police chief of southern Zabul province survived suicide attack but two civilians died and nine others, including policemen, wounded in the blast, police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into the vehicle of Ghulam Jilani Farahi at around 10: 00 am in Qalat City.
Five civilians and four policemen injured in the explosion, he added, adding a child was among the dead. The vehicle Farahi was travelling in damaged slightly but he and his body guards escaped unhurt in attempt on his life, the police chief added.
Ihsanullah, an eyewitness, said policemen were killed and wounded in the attack. The police chief said Farahi arrived in the provincial capital after carrying out anti-militants offensive in Atghar district.
Militants have not yet spoken on the incident.
