KABUL’s shadow district chief was injured and his four accomplices were killed during a security search operation in the Tagab district of northeastern Badakhshan province on Monday, police said.
Another six fighters of Qari Eidi, the shadow district chief for Tagab, were detained during the offensive that involved Afghan army, police and intelligence personnel, the provincial police spokesman said.
Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces and civilians escaped unhurt during today’s operation, which would continue in the targeted areas.
He said it was believed foreign militants existed in Tagab because local insurgents there had links with foreigners in Warduj and Juram districts that border Tagab.
The Taliban have said nothing about the injuring of their leader in Tagab. But their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters put up stiff residence to an attack by security forces, killing two policemen and injuring five others.
He said a clash between the fighters and security forces was still underway in the Pul-i-Khambak area.
