KABUL (Pajhwok): A cabinet nominee, Mohammad Yaqub Haidari, is on the most-wanted list of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).
A report on the Interpol website says: “Haidari is wanted by the judicial authorities of Estonia to serve a sentence for large-scale tax evasion and fraudulent conversion.”
Last week, the national unity government named Haideri as agriculture minister-designate. Interpol says anyone with information about Haidari should contact national or local police.
Haidari, who has been picked by President Ashraf Ghani for the cabinet slot, could not be reached for comment.
More than three months after being sworn in, the new leadership named a 25-member cabinet and heads of two independent departments last week after missing several own deadlines.
The ministers-designate are expected to seek a vote of confidence from parliament on Tuesday.
