Stage set for Afghan-Pakistan friendly match in Lahore

KABUL on Friday (tomorrow) in a friendly encounter in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province, officials said on Thursday

Following their arrival in Islamabad two days back, the footballers travelled via the Motorway to Lahore, where the friendly is to be played at the Punjab Stadium. The two sides last met in Kabul in August 2013 when the Afghans trounced the visitors 3-0.

Jalaluddin Shariatyar, the Afghanistan, he added.

Hussainkhel, the Afghan coach, said the main purpose of the friendly was strengthening ties between the neighbours. Such events would help promote the game in the region, he hoped.

Hassan Bashir, the Pakistani skipper, said they had received enough training ahead of the tie against Afghanistan and would try to win. Though Pakistanis were behind Afghanistan in international rankings, they would try to make a match of it, he added.
