EBAK/SHEBRGHAN (Pajhwok): A leading drug smuggler escaped from a detention centre in northwestern Samangan province, an official said Monday.
Maj. Gen. Mohammad Akram Bikzad, police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the smuggler Asif escaped from a jail. Asif was arrested along with 58 kilograms of heroin he was carrying in a car.
He said the smuggler fled due to negligence of security guards last night. The director of the detention center along with some other officers had been detained for investigation, Bikzad said.
Elsewhere, a police official was killed in a roadside bombing in Jawzjan province.
Intelligence chief Col. Sayyed Zamanuddin Hussaini said that 2nd Lt. Allauddin, engineering director for provincial police, was killed when the bomb he was defusing on Shibrghan-Sar-I-Pul highway went off prematurely.
