KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 24 insurgents, including Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier, have been killed in showdowns with ANA in central Uruzgan and southern Helmand provinces, security officials said Sunday.
Officials of the 205 Atal Military Corps in Kandahar said in a statement that 20 rebels had been perished in Maiwand and Ghurak districts’ offensives.
It said that six militants were detained with huge arms and ammunitions recovered from their hideouts.
In Dehrawud district of Uruzgan, one ANA soldiers died and six others wounded in a face-off with militants that left four rebels dead.
However, Qari Yousuf, the Taliban’s spokesman, claimed killing five ANA soldiers in Maroof district of Kandahar and one in Chori district of Uruzgan.
He acknowledged two militants killed and another wounded in a clash in Maroof district.
Security officials claimed thwarting two suicide attacks in Kandahar.
