KUNDUZ/SARI-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Five insurgents, including a policeman, were killed in a face-off with police in the Imam Sahib district of northeastern Kunduz province on Sunday, officials said.
Amanuddin Qureshi, the town’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News that militants stormed a police check post late Saturday evening in Rangin area of the district.
The ensuing battle left four rebels dead and an unconfirmed numbers of them wounded, he added.
Afghan security forces, he said had started operations in the area amid sporadic clashes with insurgents, he informed.
In a separate incident in northern Sar-i-Pul province, a group of eight insurgents who renounced violence again joined insurgents in Balghala village.
