FAIZABAD (PAJHWOK): At least six people have been killed and seven others injured as a result of two separate avalanches in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Monday.
The incidents took place at Kalafzar and Dara-e-Ghazni localities of Yamgan district on Sunday, the district chief Nauroz Mohammad Haidari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Around 20 homes had been destroyed by the avalanche, he said, adding that people who suffered casualties were mostly shepherds.
Ahmad Naved Frotan, the governor’s spokesman, said, roads leading to Yamgan district had been blocked due to heavy snowfall.
In addition, he said that rebels’ presence was another problem in transferring of aid.
He said the Ministry of Interior (MoI) had been asked to provide two helicopters for the delivery of food stuff to the marooned residents.
