HERAT (Pajhwok): At least 11 persons have been detained in western Herat province on charges of kidnapping, terrorism and links to insurgents and two would-be suicide bombers arrested in southern Kandahar, officials said on Monday.
Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, Herat police spokesman, told journalists the detained men were behind a recent spike in law and order in the province.
The men, he added, were arrested from Herat city and Guzara district. Around 11 guns, 20 kilograms of drugs and two cars have also been recovered from them.
He expressed optimism that latest round of arrests would help bolster security in the province.
The residents of Herat sought to award exemplary punishment to the criminals and lauded the efforts of the security organs.
Meanwhile, intelligence operatives claimed averting a major security incident in southern Kandahar province after detaining two would-be suicide bombers along with two guides, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.
It said the two guides Ronday and Shah Mahmood were accused of a series of suicide bombings in Kandahar province.
