KABUL (Pajhwok): Following formal invitation extended by his Iranian counterpart, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani is set to visit Tehran to further bolster cooperation between the two countries in multifaceted areas, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
Earlier, the president had expressed optimism that relations with neighboring states were navigating toward positive direction.
The statement said that the visiting Iranian vice-president Mohammad Shariatmadari held detailed discussion with the president ranging from economic cooperation to peace and security.
During the course of meeting, it was decided that a joint Afghan-Iranian committee would be formed aimed at promoting bilateral relations in various areas.
Shariatmadari said Iranian interior minister would be representing his country in the new high-level joint committee between the two countries. “We have witnessed change and great achievements in Afghanistan. We are sure the country is moving towards a positive direction,” he added.
Ghani assured the visiting dignitary that he would soon appoint one of his cabinet members to represent Afghanistan in the committee.
“This committee should evolve strategy to combat terror, drugs and promotion of bilateral volume of trade and commerce,” Ghani added.
